The best things to do in Burrum Heads, Queensland, are the beach and the Burrum Heads Hotel. But it prides itself on being a beach town where not much happens.

Burrum Heads, like near neighbour Woodgate Beach, tends to get overlooked on the drive from Hervey Bay to Bundaberg.

On the south side of the Isis River, facing Woodgate Beach, Burrum Heads is a laid-back beach town on the Fraser Coast. It’s close enough to Hervey Bay to almost be a suburb, but this Queensland coastal settlement marches to its own beat.

There aren’t that many things to do in Burrum Heads beyond enjoying beach time. There are, however, a bowling club, two caravan parks and a smattering of cafés.

If you are here for the beach, though, make the most of high tide. When the water’s in, the beach is pretty good for swimming. There’s very little in the way of swell, as Fraser Island to the east provides significant protection.

This, of course, means that Burrum Heads really isn’t a surf beach. Take your board elsewhere.

At low tide, however, a string of sand bars appear, making for rather patchy swimming.

Otherwise, the centre of life in Burrum Heads is the Burrum Heads Hotel. This is very much a typical local Aussie pub, with meat raffles, tipping competitions and a food menu that sticks rigidly to classics such as chicken parmas.
