Entry to the fruit market is free, and it’s open from 10am to 4pm every day except Christmas Day.

Some of the fruits on sale are reasonably well known. You’ll find lychees, mangos and papaya, for example. But much of the fun at this Duranbah tourist attraction comes in discovering things you’ve never heard of. How about trying a grummichama? Or a cherimoya?

Depending on what season you arrive in, you might be able to buy an Aztec peach, a black sapote, a loquat or a sapodilla. Native Australian fruits such as finger limes are also available.

If browsing the fruit market doesn’t quite cut it for you, it’s possible to take a farm tour.

The Tropical Fruit World tour heads around the plantation, showing off the orchards on board a tractor train. It also includes a boat cruise through a bushland valley and a visit to the on-site animal park. This small animal park includes farm animals, but also native creatures such as kangaroos and emus.

The most fun part of the tour, however, is the fruit tasting experience at the end. Which fruits are served up depends on seasonality, but chances are you’ll get a couple of things that you’ve never tried before.
