The drive from Albury to Corowa in New South Wales is essentially just a short hop west along the Murray River.

For most travellers, it is likely to form a section of a longer Murray River road trip – maybe from Albury to Echuca or Albury to Mildura.

Once out of Albury, the drive is almost entirely along the Riverina Highway – also known as the B58.

Albury to Corowa road trip stops: Wonga Wetlands

The first attraction along the Albury to Corowa drive is the Wonga Wetlands. This is primarily a birdwatching location, with six hides scattered between seven lagoons. However, there are also three walking trails, measuring 0.5km, 1.2km and 2.5km respectively. Entry to the Wonga Wetlands is free.

A little further along, you’ll come to the Wrenwood Gallery and Farm Shop. It’s a pleasant little spot rather than a must-see, but you can pick up a few goodies for later in the longer road trip here.

The next town of any reasonable size is Howlong, which has a pleasant riverside park and fishing jetty, plus a golf course.

Albury to Corowa drive via Gooramadda and Wahgunyah

From Howlong, turn off the Riverina Highway at Honour Avenue and you’ll come into Corowa. However, if you dip over the Victorian border, there’s a much more agreeable route that only adds another three minutes to the journey.

Cross the Murray River on River Road, and you’ll go past Gooramadda Olives and John Gehrig Wines on Gooramadda Road. The next town along is Wahgunyah, where you’ll find Valhalla Wines and the particularly visitor-friendly All Saints Estate.

From All Saints, it’s another quick hop over the Murray into Corowa, where the highlights are the Corowa Federation Museum and the Corowa Distilling Co inside an old mill.
