Melbourne to Perth road trip: Distance, driving time, stops & attractions
Melbourne to Perth road trip: Western Australia
Once over the Western Australian border from Border Village, the Eyre Highway continues for a punishingly long time from Eucla to Norseman. The most interesting places to stop along the way are the ruins of the old telegraph station in Eucla, buried among the sand dunes, and Balladonia.
The Balladonia roadhouse is home to a small museum about when the Skylab space station crashed to earth in 1979. Use that as your stimulation before driving 90 Mile Straight – Australia’s longest stretch of entirely straight road.
From Norseman, it’s a two hour drive to gold mining town Kalgoorlie, which hosts several attractions. The best things to do in Kalgoorlie include Hannan’s North Tourist Mine, the Museum of the Goldfields and tours of the Superpit.
Golfers can also play the final couple of holes of the Nullarbor Links, a golf course that stretches all the way from Ceduna.
