The Dukes Highway passes through Bordertown and Keith, and you can enjoy some South Australian silo art in Coonalpyn. But things don’t start getting interesting until you hit the Murray River at Tailem Bend and Murray Bridge.

Now, if you’ve got a leisurely schedule, it is well worth the short diversion to Goolwa near the Mouth of the Murray. Cruises of the Coorong and Australia’s longest beach will make it worth your while. Also, you can head into Adelaide through the McLaren Vale wine region, stopping for shiraz-tasting sessions at McLaren Vale wineries such as Hugh Hamilton Wines, Serafino and d’Arenberg.
