Taree to Coffs Harbour road trip: Crowdy Bay or the Bird Tree?

Leaving Taree on the Pacific Highway you can stop at the Cattai Wetlands in Coopernook. But you’re better off diverting east and enjoying the Crowdy Bay National Park. If you want to see wild kangaroos, the Diamond Head campground is a near-guaranteed sighting spot.

Stay on the Pacific Highway and you soon come to Middle Brother National Park. The Bird Tree – a 69m blackbutt tree, estimated to be at least 300 years old – is the top sight here. There’s a picnic area next to it.

The Taree to Port Macquarie leg of the drive heads past Queens Lake. If you’ve plenty of time, you might want to detour towards the coast and Lake Cathie. You can go wine tasting at Long Point Winery on the way to Lake Cathie Beach if you wish.
