The Diamond Head camping ground in the Crowdy Bay National Park is one of the top spots for beachside camping in New South Wales. And, if you want to turn the drive from Sydney to Coffs Harbour into a coastal camping hop, this campground south of Port Macquarie is one of the most spectacular on the Mid North Coast.

Diamond Head camping ground facilities in Crowdy Bay National Park

Don’t go expecting too much in the way of facilities at the Diamond Head camping ground, although there are gas barbecues, picnic shelters and outdoor showers. More importantly, they’re right next to an absolutely tremendous beach.

Fires are only permitted in off-the-ground braziers, which can be hired from the Crowdy Bay National Park office. You can also pick up wildflower identification brochures or bird and fauna lists here. The nearest place to get food and supplies is in Laurieton, around 10km to the north.

Crowdy Bay camping: How many sites?

There are 75 sites available at the Diamond Head Camping Ground, which are suitable for tents, trailers, caravans, campervans and motorhomes.

Once at Diamond Head, there are several hiking tracks to enjoy. The Mermaid Lookout track is short and easy, but the Diamond Head loop walk is more rewarding. This 4.8km circuit goes via Indian Head and takes in mountains, forest and splendid coastal views.

Diamond Head camping ground costs

Camping at Diamond Head in the Crowdy Bay National Park costs $24.60 per night when booked through the NSW National Parks website. This fee covers up to six people in a tent or vehicle.

There is, however, a Crowdy Bay National Park entrance fee of $8 per vehicle per day that needs paying.
