The Fish Creek Hotel in Fish Creek, Victoria, offers art deco architecture, motel-style accommodation and a solid food menu.

The Fish Creek Hotel in Victoria is a great Australian country pub. This is partly due to location – it’s in Fish Creek, the gateway to Wilsons Promontory in South Gippsland.

But looks play a major part, too. The Fish Creek Hotel is a marvellously out-of-place slice of art deco, standing on a hill slop marginally above the rest of the town. It looks great, and it’s highly inviting.

Oh, and there’s also massive fish sculpture on the roof.

The Fish Creek Hotel was built in 1939, and has been the centrepiece of the town pretty much ever since. It also host exhibition spaces, in playing with the town’s strong arty streak.

Fish Creek Hotel accommodation

The Fish Creek Hotel offers accommodation, either in the hotel itself or in the motel-style units next to it. The hotel accommodation here has shared bathrooms, with budget twin and double rooms costing from $105. These rooms are not air conditioned.

The motel rooms are more comfortable. They come with air-conditioning and en-suite bathrooms.

Most visitors, however, will come to the Fish Creek Hotel for food and drink. There are some pub classics on the food menu, including chicken parma or fish and chips. But you can also get wagyu burgers, seared salmon and slow-cooked lamb.

There’s also a kids’ menu, which includes options such as chicken nuggets, beef Bolognese and bangers and mash. All kids’ meals come with a parental sanity-saving activity sheets.
