Albury to Echuca road trip: Drive time, distance & best attractions

Things to see on the Albury to Echuca drive

First up is Corowa, on the New South Wales side of the border. The star attraction here is Corowa Whisky and Chocolate, which offers whisky and chocolate-tasting in a handsome old flour mill.

Zig-zag over to Victoria, and you can try tasting wines in the grounds of a castle at the All Saints winery in Wahgunyah. You’ll then drive past Lake Mulwala. If you’ve got plenty of time, take a lake cruise from Yarrawonga. If pushed, just admire the ghostly, semi-submerged river red gum trees as you go past.

The route continues past several food producers, which collectively form the Murray Farm Gate Trail. Cactus Country in Strathmerton is the most fun stop here. You can eat cactus ice cream, but more importantly stroll through gardens made from more than 4,000 species of cactus.

Just before Strathmerton, you reach Cobram – one of Australia’s most unlikely beach destinations. Going for a swim at Thompsons Beach is great fun, however.
