Cranebrook is one of the lesser-known suburbs of Western Sydney. To all intents and purposes, it is part of Penrith, and it is next to the Penrith Lakes.
The Penrith Lakes were used for the rowing, canoeing and kayaking events in the Sydney 2000 Olympics. They are now a watersports hub for the Greater Sydney Area.

Sydney International Regatta Centre in Cranebrook
The Sydney International Regatta Centre is the main focus of the Penrith Lakes. However, it’s more suitable for specialist Sydneysiders than casual tourists. Rowers, sailors, kayakers and open water swimmers can use the Sydney International Regatta Centre facilities, but must pre-book at least 72 hours in advance.
You don’t, however, need to book in order to use the 5km of walking and cycling trails around the lakes. There’s also a Parkrun that goes around the Penrith Lakes. This is free to join, but you need to register to join the Penrith Lakes Parkrun.
Penrith Lakes activities: Penrith Whitewater Stadium
Visitors to Cranebrook will probably be more interested in the Penrith Whitewater Stadium. Here, you can take whitewater kayaking lessons. But most will probably be interested in the whitewater rafting experiences.
The guided rafting trips at Penrith Whitewater Stadium start off with safety instructions. But once drilled, it’s time for the crew to get out onto the water and ride the rapids. The guided rafting tours cost $94 per person.
The other adventurous activity you can try on the Penrith Lakes in Cranebrook is jetpack flying. Jetpack Adventures lets you fly with a water-powered jetpack.
