Things to do in Neutral Bay, NSW: Cocktails at the Oaks
The Oaks pub is on the Military Road strip, too, and it serves as Neutral Bay’s focal point. It’s a big pub, which aims reasonably upscale. There’s a magnificent beer garden, dominated by a massive oak tree that gives the pub its name. One of the best things to do in Neutral Bay is stopping at the Oaks for craft beers or cocktails.
Neutral Bay is a hilly neighbourhood, which means you get good harbour views from much of it. What you don’t get, however, is much in the way of beach life.
Things to do in Neutral Bay, NSW: Hayes Street Beach & Anderson Park
Hayes Street Beach near Neutral Bay Wharf is vaguely passable if all you want is some sand and a dip in the water. But the better North Shore beaches, such as Balmoral Beach, are further west. The beach at the bottom of Anderson Park is barely worthy of the name, however.
Anderson Park is a good spot for views of the harbour, looking out past the yachts in the marina, however. If you’ve got the kids with you, however, Warringa Park and the Ilbery Reserve are better bets as they have playgrounds.
