Barossa chocolate factory: Tastings at the Barossa Valley Chocolate Company

The Barossa Valley Chocolate Company offers a wine and chocolate tasting experience at its Barossa chocolate factory in Tanunda.

Beyond wine-tasting in the Barossa Valley

The Barossa Valley in South Australia is arguably Australia’s most famous wine region. But there’s more to in the Barossa, just north of Adelaide, than wine-tasting. Options beyond the wineries include cycling the Barossa Trail and going on a Barossa Valley hot air balloon tour.

But there’s one thing that goes notoriously well with wine, and that’s chocolate. This is where the Barossa Valley Chocolate Company in Tanunda, just south of Nuriootpa, nobly steps in.

Barossa Valley Chocolate Company factory for visitors

This Barossa chocolate factory is in a stunning location next to a small lake. The Barossa Valley Chocolate Company building looks rather like a modern winery, designed for the visitor experience.

Step inside the Barossa chocolate factory, and you can watch the chocolatiers at work through a series of large viewing windows.

The Barossa Valley Chocolate Company boasts that it makes more than 250 chocolate products. These include dark, milk and white chocolate, plus bars, pralines and cute chocolate koalas. The pralines at the Tanunda chocolate factory attempt to use local products, such as Barossa cider or Vineyard Road shiraz wine.

Single origin chocolates at the Barossa chocolate factory

Sourcing single origin chocolates is a big part of the Barossa Valley Chocolate Company business, too. The company sells single origin chocolates from Ecuador, Ghana, Mexico, Tanzania and Venezuela.

More intriguingly, this South Australian chocolate maker also sources Australian-grown cocoa beans from the Daintree region north of Cairns in Queensland. You might see these beans growing if you take the drive from Cairns to Cape Tribulation over the Daintree River.

Barossa chocolate factory tastings

It is possible to do tastings at the Barossa chocolate factory, but it will cost you. The Barossa Valley Chocolate company offers a wine and chocolate pairing experience, serving up five Barossa Vineyard Road wines alongside matched chocolates. This chocolate tasting experience costs $25.

There’s also a non-alcoholic pairing available for kids, drivers and non-drinkers at this Tanunda chocolate factory. This experience sees the Barossa chocolates paired with sparkling cordials. The non-alcoholic pairing experience will set you back $15.
