Several famous winemakers have their HQ is Tanunda. These include St Hallett, Langmeil Winery and the Lindsay Wine Estate. Perhaps the best tourist experience, however, comes at Chateau Tanunda.

The Chateau part of the name is not an understatement – the winery is based in a huge, imposing 1890s building that is the star of many a Barossa Valley photograph.

Tanunda breweries and chocolate factory

Aside for the wines, there are a few other things to do in Tanunda, South Australia. Granted, many of these involve tastings, but at least it’s slightly different. Those who prefer grain to grape can try microbrewed beers at Rehn Bier or Barossa Valley Brewing.

Chocolate is also made in the Barossa Valley, and you can sample it at the factory when you visit the Barossa Valley Chocolate Company.

Things to do in Tanunda, South Australia: Art and heritage

Those of a more artistic persuasion can check out Aboriginal art at Corroboree Dream Art Tanunda. Formerly known as Prestige Art, this gallery focusing on Indigenous works has been open since 1985. It’s complemented by the Barossa Regional Gallery, which has a wider brief. The Barossa Regional Gallery hosts local artists and exhibitions from further afield.

For cultural Tanunda attractions, the Barossa Museum looks at regional heritage. It’s in the mid-19th century former post office and telegraph building.           

For pure, shameless fun, however, top of the list of things to do in Tanunda is probably Barossa Bowland. This kid-friendly joint combines ten pin bowling and dinosaur-themed mini golf.
