Yankalilla, South Australia, is a settlement on the Fleurieu Peninsula south of Adelaide. To call it a town would be pushing things somewhat, but it is home to the Fleurieu Coast Visitor Centre, and it acts as a hub for the surrounding agricultural areas.

You’ll pass through Yankalilla on the drive from Adelaide to Cape Jervis. If staying on the Fleurieu Peninsula, however, you’re more likely to opt for Normanville or Carrickalinga on Yankalilla Bay. The town of Yankalilla is just inland from them both.

Heritage buildings in Yankalilla, South Australia

Yankalilla, South Australia, offers a collection of relatively attractive old buildings. Christ Church and the Shrine of Our Lady of Yankalilla are arguably the highlights if you’re having a stroll around the town. If you really want to know more about the history of the area, then the Yankalilla Historical Museum is inside the visitor centre. Don’t expect to be utterly gripped by it, however.

Yankalilla attractions: Allusion Wines

Otherwise, the main attraction in Yankalilla, South Australia, is Allusion Wines. This small Fleurieu Peninsula winery tends to escape attention as it’s not in the internationally-famous McLaren Vale wine region. But Allusion Wines is open for tastings at the weekends, and has a good garden and children’s play area. That makes it a kid-friendly option for any parents who wish to taste South Australian wines while keeping the little ones occupied.
