The Ginger Factory, Sunshine Coast: The home of Buderim Ginger

The Ginger Factory on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, offers ginger and honey tours, a train through tropical gardens and a children’s boat ride.

The Ginger Factory on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, is the home of Buderim Ginger. Confusingly, it’s not actually in Buderim, but nearby Yandina.

Over the years, however, the Ginger Factory has evolved into a multi-pronged tourist attraction.

The obvious lure is tasting the ginger made here. The Gingerlatis dessert bar offers up gelatos, lollies and sundaes, with ginger leanings in the flavours.

Ginger Factory tour in Yandina

For a more educationally nourishing experience, however, take the Ginger Factory tour. This shows how ginger is grown, harvested and turned into a range of Buderim Ginger products.

There are other foods in focus too, however. The Ginger Factory’s other tour hones in on honey. The live bee show looks at a day in the life of a beekeeper and explains how bees make honey. There are also honey tastings as part of the experience.

Attractions at the Ginger Factory, Sunshine Coast

What makes the Ginger Factory a more compelling tourist attraction, however, is the range of other attractions on the site. Most of these, admittedly, are aimed at younger children.

These include Overboard, a boat ride with animation and puppetry, roughly telling the story of a runaway gingerbread man.

There’s also the Ginger Train, which chugs slowly through nine hectares of tropical gardens. This is a century-old former sugar cane train, which has been repurposed.

Gruffalo Trail in Yandina, Queensland

For the little ones, there’s also a Gruffalo trail, based on the characters from Julia Donaldson’s children’s book. This is best explored with a special augmented reality app.

Admission to the Ginger Factory grounds is free – you pay individually for each tour and attraction. These can be booked in advance through Viator.
