Four amazing places to swim on Fraser Island
K’gari/ Fraser Island in Queensland has some amazing safe swimming holes, free from sharks and crocodiles. But which one of Lake McKenzie, Lake Wabby, Champagne Pools and Eli Creek you prefer will depend on personal taste.
Fraser Island – now officially known as K’gari – is the world’s largest sand island and an undisputed highlight of any Queensland holiday. The island is renowned for its four wheel drive tours, rainforest walking tracks and a 75 mile long beach that acts as the main highway.
The main problem with 75 Mile Beach on Fraser Island is that it is really not safe for swimming. There are savagely strong rips. And while there are no crocodiles like elsewhere in Queensland, sharks are renowned for hanging out offshore. Go for a swim at 75 Mile Beach, and you are taking a substantial risk.
