Injidup Natural Spa: Photo-friendly rock pools at Injidup Beach, WA

The Injidup Natural Spa in Western Australia is a tongue-in-cheek name for the Injidup Beach rock pools, which the surf crashes over. Don’t get it confused with the Injidup Spa Retreat.

Injidup Beach near Yallingup in the Margaret River region of Western Australia is home to what the locals call the Injidup Natural Spa.

What is Injidup Natural Spa?

The Injidup Natural Spa, however, is not really a spa complex. It’s a bit of Australian tongue-in-cheek hyperbole. The Injidup Natural Spa is basically a set of rock pools by the beach. Clamber over the rocks to get there, and the Injidup Beach rock pools are washed over by an often wild Indian Ocean. Waves surge into the pools, giving inhabitants a fizzing, cold water dousing.

This is not the sort of pampering experience many would expect from a spa day. Therefore, it’s perhaps no surprise to learn that the main patrons of the Injidup Beach rock pools are surfers. They come for a wash over before or after tackling the surf breaks at the beach.

Injidup Spa Retreat or Injidup Natural Spa?

What might get somewhat confusing, however, is the presence of the Injidup Spa Retreat. This posh Yallingup accommodation features ten adult only villas, each with a private plunge pool and ocean views. All villas have a fireplace, kitchenette and private patio with barbecue, while gourmet breakfast hampers are provided on arrival. The Injidup Spa Retreat has an en-site spa facility, providing massages and body treatments. But not, ironically, spa pools.

Where is Injidup Beach, Western Australia?

Both the Injidup Spa Retreat and Injidup Beach rock pools are at the northern end of the Margaret River region. There are some wineries nearby, including Happs Wines, Wills Domain and Aravina Estate. But Injidup Beach is closer to whale-watching hotspot Dunsborough, Cape Naturaliste, Eagle Bay, Meelup Beach and the Bunker Bay Resort than it is to the town of Margaret River. Accommodation options nearby include Seashells Yallingup.

Other Margaret River region beaches include Boranup BeachHamelin Bay, Prevelly Beach and Smiths Beach. For more Western Australian beaches, visit the Australian Beach Guide.
