One Mile Beach in Forster, New South Wales, is one of several stunning beaches along the Mid North Coast.

It’s an ocean-facing beach that’s extremely popular with surfers, but it also has the facilities to make it a family favourite, too.

Where is One Mile Beach, Forster?

One Mile Beach is the first beach north of Burgess Beach, and it is topped by Bennetts Head at the northern end. Bennetts Head has a lookout offering 360 degree views, and you’ll often spot dolphins from the top.

But locals know Bennetts Head best for its enormous sandhill. This sandhill is great fun to sandboard down.

One Mile Beach facilities

The beach itself has a big park behind it. Here, you’ll find barbecue facilities, picnic tables and a playground. Hence One Mile Beach, Forster, is popular with families wanting to make a day of it.

For swimming, the southern end of the beach is safest. But One Mile Beach is notorious for its rips, so stay between the red and yellow flags. The beach is patrolled by surf lifesavers at weekends and during the summer holidays.

Surfing at One Mile Beach, Forster

The best surf breaks are at the northern end of One Mile Beach. Surfing conditions tend to be best when the swell is moderate – things can get messy when the waves get too big.

The beach isn’t, as the name would suggest. It’s about 1.3km from the southern end of the beach to Bennetts Head. But the beach doesn’t get its name from the length – it comes from the distance to Forster’s main post office.

Other beaches in the area worth a look include Forster Beach, Tuncurry Beach and those in Booti Booti National Park.

Forster accommodation picks include Hotel Forster for a big pool, the Forster Motor Inn for affordable utility and the Dorsal Boutique Hotel for style.
