Seaford Beach, South Australia, is a perennially popular surfing spot. That’s as much due to accessibility as it is to do with the surf breaks – Seaford is an easy 46 minute train journey from central Adelaide on the Seaford line.

Seaford Beach is in the City of Onkaparinga local government region, in that not-quite zone south of Adelaide, west of the McLaren Vale and north of the Fleurieu Peninsula.

To all intents and purposes, Seaford Beach is one section of a longer beach that stretches north to Port Noarlunga and becomes Moana Beach to the south. It is backed by dunes, which the Esplanade runs behind.

Swimming and surfing at Seaford Beach, South Australia

Seaford Beach is best known for its surfing, but it’s also a reasonably safe place to swim. That said, you should stay between the flags if you do get in the water.

Those who just want to ogle Seaford Beach rather than go on it can enjoy the walking trail along the dunes and cliffs behind. This trail offers suitably excellent views of Gulf St Vincent and the coastline.

There are public toilets and a car park behind Seaford Beach, but otherwise this Adelaide beach is somewhat lacking in facilities. Don’t expect the sort of seaside suburb lined with cafés, ice cream parlours and fish and chip shops that you might get elsewhere. Seaford Beach is much quieter than that, and manages to retain an agreeably wild look.
