Margaret River chocolate factory: Why should I visit Metricup, WA?

The Margaret River Chocolate Company in Metricup, Western Australia, offers free chocolate tastings. There are also truffles and chocolate sauces sold only at their Margaret River chocolate factory.

The Margaret River Chocolate Company is one of several small chocolate makers in Australia proving Australian chocolate isn’t all terrible. Others include the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie and Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie in Victoria, Coal River Farm in Tasmania and the Barossa Valley Chocolate Company in South Australia.

Chocolate tasting at the Margaret River chocolate factory

The Margaret River Chocolate Company specialises in premium chocolates, and has been making them since 1999. The chocolate factory is a staple of Margaret River wine tours. Throwing in chocolate tasting provides a break from wine tasting at the likes of Cullen Wines, the Xanadu winery and Leeuwin Estate.

The Margaret River Chocolate Company isn’t in the town of Margaret River itself – it’s 21km to the north in Metricup.

Things to do in Metricup, Western Australia

Metricup is mostly rural, and mostly taken up by vineyards. Other things to do in Metricup include wine-tasting at Howling Wolves Wines, Coward and Black Vineyards, Churchview Estate or the 3 Oceans Winery. Bettenays, the Margaret River Nougat Company, and the Metricup Beerfarm are also open to visitors

But the Margaret River Chocolate Company offers one very important thing – free chocolate tastings. There are big barrels of dark, milk and white chocolate buttons inside the shop. Visitors can help themselves within reason.

Margaret River chocolate factory products

Of course, no chocolate factory is going to survive by giving away everything for free. The Margaret River Chocolate Company hopes that you’ll enjoy the free tasting so much that you’ll buy something else from the range. Flavours of chocolate bars for sale include walnut and ginger, Jamaica coconut and macadamia nut.

One reason to make the journey to Metricup, however, is that some Margaret River Chocolate Company products are only sold in store. These include hand-made truffles, chocolate sauces and country of origin chocolates.

Margaret River Chocolate Company outlets
