Tilba Winery, NSW: What makes it worth visiting?

The Tilba Winery near Narooma, NSW, serves palatable wines at the cellar door. But you can also taste beers and attend gigs at this South Coast winery.

The Tilba Winery and Ale House is tourist attraction near Narooma on the New South Wales South Coast. It is open to visitors for wine tasting, but also has a restaurant and hosts reasonably regular music concerts.

Despite the name, the Tilba Winery is not in the historic villages of Tilba Tilba or Central Tilba. It’s in neighbouring Corunna. It’s a short detour off the Princes Highway for anyone visiting Tilba, Mystery Bay or Narooma, however.

Tilba Winery cellar door

Wine-tasting at the Tilba Winery cellar door costs $3.50 per person. This allows a tasting measure of three different wines. Of these, the rosé is the best-seller, but the shiraz is arguably the best. You can also plump for a tawny – which is basically port – and a pinot grigio.

The setting is impressive. The winery is on a hillside, overlooking the vines and a small lake. There is loads of outdoor seating, and you can do the wine tasting via a service hatch on the decking rather than going inside. You can also do a more formal tasting at the cellar door, however.

Brewery at Tilba Winery

The Tilba Winery has been making wines for four decades, now. But in 2019, a craft brewery was added. The winery now brews pale ales, dark beers, sours and various other styles of beer to serve on site.

What really turns the Tilba Winery into a destination in its own right, however, are the events. Gigs are regularly held at the winery, while sometimes the outdoor area is turned into an open-air cinema.
