Attractions between Brisbane and Adelaide: Narrabri to Coonabarabran

Continue along the highway and it’s 120km from Narrabri to Coonabarabran. The drive goes through the Pillaga Forests and past Timmallallie National Park. Here, nature and culture combines along the Sculptures in the Scrub walking track.

The best national park in the region, however, is Warrumbungle National Park, a place of wildlife, jutting granite rock formations, volcanic landscapes and astronomer-friendly dark skies. The Breadknife and Granite High Tops Walk, a 14.5km loop, is a highlight and one that gives a sizable sense of achievement.

To do any stargazing experiences here or nearby, you’ll realistically need to spend the night in Coonabarabran. You can also take a tour of Australia’s largest telescope at the Siding Spring Observatory.

Suggested Coonabarabran attractions: Siding Spring Observatory, Milroy Observatory, Crystal Kingdom fossil museum.

Coonabarabran accommodation picks: The highly rated Country Gardens Motel Inn or Acacia Motor Lodge.
