Brisbane to Adelaide road trip: Drive distance, hours & best stops

Hay to Tooleybuc drive

The next leg sees you drive 132km from Hay to Balranald along the Sturt Highway. This drive goes past one of the Brisbane to Adelaide road trip’s highlights – Yanga National Park. The enormous and evocative Yanga Woolshed has been left standing with its ghosts, plus a few signs explaining the wool industry. The Yanga Homestead has also been left as it was when the shears stopped clicking. You can now walk around it on a self-guided tour.

Balranald has very little to offer, so you may as well turn south before reaching it, and head towards the Victorian border.

Tooleybuc, 175km from Hay, is a decent shout as somewhere to spend the night. Is there anything to do besides admire the Murray River from the riverside parks? No. But there are a couple of decent places to stay and things are about to get very sparse on the accommodation front.

Tooleybuc accommodation: For tennis, pool and mini golf, the Tooleybuc Club Motor Inn. For a bit more space, Tooleybuc River Retreat Villas.
