Narromine or Dubbo?

After Coonabarabran, you have a decision to make. Take the shortest possible route, and you go through Gilgandra and branch off the Newell Highway at Eumungerie. Then you continue along Eumungerie Road to Narromine. It’s two hours from Coonabarabran to Narromine, with very little to entice along the way.

However, stopping in Dubbo, by far the biggest town in this part of New South Wales, only adds 16 minutes to the whole Brisbane to Adelaide drive.

Well, that’s 16 minutes if you don’t actually stop there. Dubbo offers plenty to do, and it’s arguably the best overnight stop on the entire trip.
