The drive from Denmark to Albany connects one of Australia’s most attractive surf towns to the oldest town in Western Australia.

Denmark to Albany road trip: Boston Brewing Company

The first attraction along the South Coast Highway between Denmark and Albany is the Boston Brewing Company. This celebrated craft beer brewery has a lovely premises for enjoying a couple of al fresco beers. Alternatively, you can just buy a few bottles and save them for drinking later on.

Parents might like to know that there’s a children’s play area outside where the kids can keep themselves occupied while tastings continue.

Denmark to Albany drive: Crusoe Beach and the Surf Gallery

A little further along comes the turning for Crusoe Beach, a pretty beach with a jetty on Wilson Inlet.

Keep going towards Youngs Siding, and you’ll encounter the Surf Gallery. This quirky little attraction acts like a museum of surfboards, charting changes in design and shape over the decades.

From here, the South Coast Highway runs inland through farmland, although detours to the coast can take you to West Cape Howe National Park and Mutton Bird Beach.

Nearer the highway, the Lake Powell Nature Reserve has a 9.5km walking track around it and Oranje Tractor Wines has a cellar door open for tastings.

Once in Albany, attractions worth checking out include the old whaling station at Discovery Bay, plus the Gap, the Blowholes and the Natural Bridge in Torndirrup National Park. There’s also the National Anzac Centre, Dog Rock, Little Beach, Middleton Beach and the Padre White Lookout on Mount Clarence.
