Goulburn to Albury drive: Jugiong and Gundagai

The next stop is Jugiong on the Murrumbidgee River, which has some good places to eat. The Long Track Pantry, in particular, has developed a wider reputation.

Next comes Gundagai, roughly halfway along the journey. The Australian Road Transport Heritage Centre is the main attraction here, and there’s some quality, quirky accommodation nearby at the Nimbo Fork Lodge or Kimo Estate.

Goulburn to Albury drive: Tarcutta and Table Top

From Gundagai to Albury, it’s 178km. You’ll go past the junction with the Sturt Highway at Tarcutta, then pass the Table Top Hotel. This is also known as the Ettamogah Pub, is filled with silly Australiana and is based on a once-famous cartoon strip.

On this leg of the Goulburn to Albury drive, there’s also a good argument for diverting to Woomargama National Park for wildlife and walking trails.

You can also detour to the Table Top Reserve on Lake Hume, a man-made lake created by the first dam on the Murray River.
