In the last decade, Australian swimwear brand Zulu and Zephyr has expanded rapidly beyond its base in Byron Bay, New South Wales. Zulu and Zephyr now sells internationally, working with retailers in the UK, US, France and Japan.

The birth of an Australian swimwear brand

The Australian swimwear brand began life in 2012. The initial swimsuits were sold at the Bondi Markets at Bondi Beach, Sydney. Founders Candice and Karla Rose then set up base in Byron Bay, New South Wales.

As part of a marketing strategy, the sisters handed out bikinis and resort wear to Instagram influencers. But the label really took off when stars such as Margot Robbie were photographed wearing Zulu and Zephyr items.

Zulu and Zephyr does have its own flagship store in Byron Bay. But this Australian swimwear can be bought elsewhere in the country. Zulu and Zephyr stockists in New South Wales include the Burke Boutique in Mosman, Sydney, Coastal Folk in Crescent Head, Craft Surf in Ulladulla and Frolic Girls in Wollongong.

The chic gear is also on sale at La Boheme in Terrigal on the Central Coast, Podium Boutique in Yamba, Shadow Bang in Long Jetty and the Kalm Store in Gerringong.
