Melbourne to Nagambie road trip: Hume Freeway to Seymour
On the way out of Melbourne, the Mount Ridley Lookout in Craigieburn is a good place to see the suburban give way to the rural. A little further on, you can see Ned Kelly’s childhood home in Beveridge. It is in the process of being restored and opened to the public. The Hume Freeway then skirts Wallan. The walking trails of Mount Disappointment are a short detour to the east.
The Melbourne to Seymour leg of the drive continues past Heathcote Junction and Wandong. Keep going, and you’ll reach Tallarook, which has an outdoor pool and – perhaps more interestingly – a few nearby wineries. The Trawool Estate is open to visitors.
Seymour is just to the north of Tallarook.
Things to do in Seymour include the surprisingly moving Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Walk and the grizzled old trains of the Seymour Railway Heritage Centre.

It’s another 81km from Seymour to Nagambie, mainly along the Goulburn Valley Freeway.
The freeway skirts Nagambie, which plays host to several wineries. Of these, the Mitchelton Winery is most impressive – it offers a pool, Aboriginal art gallery and day spa. While in Nagambie, you can also stay by the Nagambie Lakes and taste craft beers at the Nagambie Brewery.
