Leichhardt Highway length

The Leichhardt Highway is 611km long. It is also known as State Route A5. It carries the A5 badge from start to finish.

This Queensland trunk road begins in Goondiwindi on the New South Wales border, taking over from the Newell Highway which passes through New South Wales.

Also in Goondiwindi, the Leichhardt Highway has junctions with the Barwon Highway, Gore Highway and Cunningham Highway. It is a major crossroads town.

Heading north, the Leichhardt Highway meets the Moonie Highway at Moonie, then after passing through Condamine, the Warrego Highway at Miles.

Leichhardt Highway towns

On the way north, the Leichhardt Highway connects a series of small, largely inconsequential towns. No-one is going to get too excited about Guluguba or Wandoan, for example. Ditto Taroom and Theodore.

Banana is the largest town in these parts, and it’s here that the Leichhardt Highway meets the Dawson Highway coming from Biloela.

Continuing north, the Leichhardt Highway passes through Dululu, where it meets the Burnett Highway. It comes to an end at the junction with the Capricorn Highway in Westwood. If you continue north-east along the Capricorn Highway, you’ll end up in Rockhampton, the major city of the Capricorn region.
