Forrest Highway, Western Australia: Length and main towns
The Forrest Highway in Western Australia connects the Kwinana Freeway in southern Perth to the city of Bunbury. It’s a 95km drive, and there are some attractive beach towns just off the highway.
By Australian standards, the Forrest Highway is tiny. But it still gets a fair amount of traffic, as it forms part of the main driving route from Perth to Bunbury and Perth to Busselton.
This Western Australian highway heads through the Peel region to the south of Perth. It is 95km long, and starts as a continuation of the Kwinana Freeway coming through Perth’s southern suburbs.
Where does the Forrest Highway in Western Australia start?
The start of the Forrest Highway is just north of the Murray River. Precisely, it’s on the boundary of Ravenswood and North Yunderup.
The highway then goes through the western edges of Pinjarra and Waroona before meeting the Old Coast Road at Lake Clifton. The Old Coast Road is part of National Route 1, which does a lap of Australia and, in this instance, comes south from Mandurah on the Indian Ocean coast.
Preston Beach and Yalgorup National Park – two of the most attractive spots in the Peel Region south of Perth – lie just to the west.

The Forrest Highway then clips the eastern edge of Australind and crosses the Collie River on the way into Bunbury.
The Kwinana Freeway and Forrest Highway were constructed at the same time, and are essentially the same project. Both roads opened in 2009.
