Turkey Beach, Queensland, is a tiny townlet in the Gladstone region. It’s the sort of sleepy fishing town that some people love and come back to every year, while the lack of facilities puts off substantial tourism and development.

Where is Turkey Beach, Queensland?

Turkey Beach is on the sheltered Rodds Bay, divided from the Coral Sea by the Rodds Peninsula. It’s a significant detour east of the Bruce Highway on the drive from Bundaberg to Gladstone. The turn-off is between Boronen and Iveragh.

Things to do in Turkey Beach, Queensland: Beaches

There aren’t many things to do in Turkey Beach, Queensland. And for many visitors, that’s entirely the point.

There are, however, three beaches on the eastern shore. Bowton Beach and Bell Beach aren’t going to get anyone that excited, but Turkey Beach itself has more to offer. Here, there are rock pools and a swimming net to protect from sharks and marine stingers.

Turkey Beach boating and fishing

The main attractions in Turkey Beach are boating and fishing, however. You’ll have to bring your own boat and fishing gear as there are no rental outlets. You can buy fishing supplies at the general store, however.

Around Turkey Beach are large swathes of mangroves, creeks and estuaries. The area is ripe for catching fish.

If you’re lucky, you might also see a dugong while out on the boat. The area is a designated dugong sanctuary.

Turkey Beach accommodation

Accommodation options in Turkey Beach, Queensland, are limited. There is no caravan park in the town, and camping is not permitted.

Your only option, therefore, is holiday homes. Which, in fairness, there are a few to choose from.
