Federal Highway, Australia: Length, towns and main junctions

Federal Highway, Australia: Length, towns and main junctions

The Federal Highway through the Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales is 73km long. It connects Canberra to Goulburn, and is a fairly unavoidable chunk of the Canberra to Sydney drive.

The Federal Highway in Australia is one of the shorter highways in Australia, but most people driving from Canberra to Sydney will probably end up driving along it.

This Australian highway is just 73km long. The Federal Highway runs from the junction with the Barton Highway in Canberra to the junction with the Hume Highway in Goulburn.

Federal Highway junctions

The first key junction on the route is the meeting with the Majura Parkway – aka the M23 – which runs to Fyshwick and Canberra Airport.

Shortly afterwards, the Federal Highway crosses the border from the Australian Capital Territory into New South Wales. There’s a turn-off at Bywong – the Bungendore Road heads from here to Bungendore.

Then, at Collector, the Collector Road heads towards Collector and Gunning.

Most, however, will just bomb along the Federal Highway and peel off at the end, taking the Hume Highway either towards Bowral and Sydney or Albury and Melbourne.
